Content Communications Manager
Job Description:
- Write and edit blogs, impact stories, video scripts, social media copy, and other communications materials
- Adapt messaging, tone, and structure to different audiences and formats
- Research topics and interview participants and experts
- Verify facts, quotations, and impact claims against source materials
- Represent people and their experiences accurately and respectfully
- Deliver content ready for editorial review while applying brand, style, accessibility, and approval guidelines
- Develop creative briefs and scripts
- Guide video producers, photographers, and designers through clear direction and actionable feedback
- Build understanding of Empowerment programs, audiences, milestones, and communications needs
- Lead working meetings and translate requests into practical communications recommendations
- Advise colleagues on objectives, audiences, formats, and timing
- Connect Empowerment stories with the organization’s broader work in connectivity, advocacy, safety, and community engagement
- Identify storytelling opportunities and contribute to integrated campaigns and program launches
- Plan assigned work from brief through delivery, including responsibilities, dependencies, deadlines, and review stages
- Maintain the editorial calendar and project-tracking systems
- Coordinate with design, social media, email, web, media, and community engagement colleagues
- Make day-to-day content and delivery decisions within agreed priorities
- Monitor organizational developments and connect opportunities across teams
- Assess content performance with measurement colleagues and use audience insights to improve future communications
- Explore storytelling practices and recommend useful approaches
Requirements:
- At least six years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, or content development
- Substantial hands-on writing experience and experience advising internal stakeholders
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- Exceptional and proven English writing and editing skills
- Portfolio of clear, accurate, audience-focused content across multiple formats
- Strong editorial judgment, including interviewing, fact-checking, accurate quotation, and attribution
- Ability to explain complex programs or technical topics in accessible language
- Experience developing creative briefs and creating or guiding video scripts
- Experience working with video producers, photographers, and designers
- Ability to lead productive meetings and make evidence-informed recommendations
- Ability to discuss competing needs diplomatically and build constructive working relationships
- Strong planning and follow-through
- Ability to coordinate with specialists and recognize when guidance or broader decisions are needed
- Curiosity, initiative, and ability to learn about an organization’s work and apply feedback
- Ability to collaborate across cultures, teams, and time zones
- Ability to communicate accurately, sensitively, and using inclusive language
