Short-Form Content Editor (Podcast / Reels / TikTok)

Part-Time Contract | Remote | Ongoing Monthly Work

We are looking for a short-form video editor with strong editorial judgment who can transform long-form conversational and podcast-style footage into engaging short-form content for Instagram Reels and TikTok.

This is not a role where timestamps and exact clips will always be provided. The ideal candidate can independently review raw footage, understand the conversation, identify the strongest moments, and determine what should become a piece of content.

Content primarily focuses on e-commerce, marketing, entrepreneurship, money, leadership, and business.

Monthly Workload
This is an ongoing monthly contract/project.

Each month, the editor can expect:

Approximately 1 batch of ~2 hours of raw conversational/podcast footage

Independently review the full recording and identify strong short-form content opportunities

Turn the strongest moments into approximately 20–30+ short-form videos, depending on the amount of usable content in each recording

Edit additional short-form paid ad creative as needed throughout the month

Complete occasional revisions or variations of existing creative

The primary social content will be batch-created each month with the goal of producing enough content to support consistent posting throughout the month.

Budget: $20–$25/hour, with the primary monthly content batch expected to require approximately 8–10 hours of work. Additional ad-editing projects will be paid at the same hourly rate.

Responsibilities

Review long-form footage and independently identify the strongest short-form moments

Recognize compelling hooks, opinions, stories, educational moments, humor, and high-potential social content

Identify when one longer conversation or answer contains multiple standalone pieces of content

Determine the strongest starting and ending points for each clip

Remove repetition, pauses, mistakes, and unnecessary tangents while preserving the creator's natural personality and speaking style

Add clean captions, natural jump cuts, strategic punch-ins/zooms, basic graphics, audio cleanup, and color correction as needed

Incorporate AI-generated questions before responses when appropriate

Recognize when a clip is stronger without the original question and should begin directly with the response

Edit additional paid social/ad creative as needed

Deliver organized, ready-to-post vertical videos

Ideal Candidate
This role requires excellent English comprehension and strong editorial judgment.

We are not looking for someone who is only technically skilled at video editing. A major part of this role is being able to recognize what makes a moment worth posting without being told where to find it.

The ideal candidate:

Is fluent or highly proficient in English

Understands American social media culture, humor, tone, and conversational language

Regularly consumes Instagram Reels, TikTok, podcasts, and short-form creator content

Understands hooks, retention, storytelling, and pacing

Is comfortable making creative decisions with minimal direction

Knows how to preserve personality rather than over-editing content

Is comfortable working with business, marketing, and e-commerce content

Is reliable with deadlines and communication

Editing Style
The desired editing style is clean, modern, and relatively simple. This is not a heavy motion-graphics role.

The ideas, conversation, and creator's personality should remain the focus.

Editing should include clean captions, natural jump cuts, strategic punch-ins, strong pacing, basic audio/color correction, and minimal but intentional graphics or B-roll when useful.

Application Requirements
Please include:

Three examples of short-form conversational or podcast content previously edited

Hourly rate

Estimated time required to review approximately 2 hours of raw conversational footage, identify the strongest moments, and edit approximately 20–30 short-form pieces

Examples of social media creators whose content/editing styles you currently follow or enjoy

Any experience editing paid social/ad creative

Selected candidates will complete a short paid editing test.

Candidates will receive a section of raw footage without timestamps and will be asked to independently identify and edit the strongest content opportunities.

The test will evaluate both technical editing ability and, importantly, the ability to recognize compelling short-form content.

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
