About the Role

The Associate Technical Supervisor (Front End) works directly alongside the Technical Supervisor and Solutions Engineering team to keep the front-end production pipeline running cleanly across character and environment work on a feature film production. Day to day, that means triaging technical issues in Modelling and Rigging, validating new tools before they reach artists, and making sure procedural asset workflows integrate properly with the broader studio pipeline. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, not a purely managerial one.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the technical direction for front-end departments including Story, Edit, Concept, Visual Development, Previs, Modelling, Rigging, and Surfacing of Characters and Environments across a feature animation pipeline.
Design and validate tools and workflows that allow artists to meet the film's visual goals, testing pipeline changes before they impact production.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in collaboration with the Technical Supervisor, Solutions Engineering, and R&D, tracking fixes through to resolution.
Break down technical projects into scoped deliverables, manage fortnightly support allocation, and communicate timelines clearly to TDs and Program Managers.
Mentor TDs in front-end departments, supporting onboarding and working with Technology Talent Management to develop skills across the team.
Partner with the Technical Supervisor and Solutions Engineering Manager to prepare estimates and plans for show-specific technical development work.

What You Bring

Proven experience as a TD or technical lead on a feature film production or animation studio project, with credits in front-end departments such as Modelling, Rigging, or Surfacing.
Deep familiarity with animation pipeline tools and workflows, including procedural asset systems and cross-department pipeline integration.
Experience troubleshooting production pipeline issues and coordinating fixes across engineering and creative teams.
Ability to scope, estimate, and track technical development work across multiple concurrent priorities.
Experience mentoring or leading TDs in a production environment, with an understanding of how to escalate personnel or technical issues constructively.
