The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Military Writing and Reporting AI Training Specialist to create, review, and evaluate realistic military and federal communications used to train AI systems. You will apply practical experience with Department of Defense documentation to produce standards-aligned reports, summaries, status updates, and executive communications.
You will also help establish benchmarks and grading guidance for effective government writing. The role focuses on domain expertise, clear judgment, and authentic military and federal writing.

What You'll Do
You will create representative military and federal documents from prompts and supplied artifacts, then evaluate AI-generated reports against practical standards. Your feedback will help define what strong government writing looks like across different document types and military contexts.
- Create realistic military and federal status reports, summaries, and executive updates
- Develop high-quality reference responses that demonstrate effective, compliant reporting
- Draft rubrics and guidelines for assessing military and federal writing
- Evaluate AI-generated reports and provide detailed written and verbal feedback
- Explain stylistic differences across Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, After-Action Reviews, and executive summaries
- Produce decision briefs, memoranda, and action officer updates when needed
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to reflect varied reporting styles and branch-specific terminology
Requirements
This opportunity is categorized as entry level, but applicants must have at least three years of relevant professional experience with the U.S. Department of Defense. You should be comfortable producing and evaluating recurring or templated military and federal documentation.
Familiarity with federal documentation standards, compliance practices, and branch-specific terminology is essential. You must be able to collaborate remotely on procedural reporting and evaluation work.
- At least three years of U.S. Department of Defense professional experience
- Hands-on experience writing Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, After-Action Reviews, or comparable military and federal reports
- Ability to create standards-aligned reference responses and grading rubrics for government writing
- Ability to craft, grade, and review documents, presentations, memoranda, and spreadsheets
- Skill in evaluating AI-generated reports and explaining detailed written and verbal feedback
- Strong written and verbal communication for technical and operational subject matter
- Familiarity with federal documentation standards and compliance practices
- Ability to collaborate remotely on procedural reporting and evaluation work
Helpful Background
Experience spanning two or more U.S. military branches is valuable. A background across multiple DoD functions or organizations can help you produce nuanced evaluation guidance and representative reference material.
Familiarity with senior-leadership reporting, executive updates, and differing conventions across military contexts will support the creation of realistic and useful AI training examples.

Engagement Details
