Position Description

We are seeking a highly versatile and experienced Sales Recruiter to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll partner closely with our Sales leaders to strategically attract and hire top-tier sales talent across all levels - from individual contributors to VP level.

As a key member of our Recruiting team, you’ll act as a true business partner - collaborating with leadership to define search strategies and serving as a trusted advisor to help interview teams hire effectively and efficiently. We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering world-class candidate experiences, has a strong track record of hiring top sales professionals, and thrives in a collaborative environment. You will own full life-cycle recruiting efforts, influence strategy, and help shape how we attract and engage high-performing candidates.

This is a remote position. However, candidates must be located in the United States or Canada. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.

Responsibilities:

The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.

  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of highly qualified candidates for all Sales roles, partnering closely with Executive and Sales Leadership teams to ensure hiring goals are met.

  • Proactively source, identify and engage top-performing talent across global markets.

  • Conduct thorough candidate outreach and screening across multiple channels, effectively communicating role details while continuously assessing candidate fit.

  • Design and coordinate customized interview processes that align with Toptal’s high hiring bar and role specific requirements.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for candidates, guiding them through each stage of the interview process and ensuring an exceptional candidate experience.

  • Communicate effectively and consistently with internal teams via Slack and Zoom.

In the first week, expect to:

  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal through virtual introductions and Zoom coffees with colleagues.

  • Review team playbooks, processes, and best practices to build a solid foundation for success.

  • Dive into our Applicant Tracking System, exploring its full functionality along with the tools and systems we use daily.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Gain a clear understanding of our success criteria and begin shaping your hiring strategy.

  • Review Recruiter call recordings to understand our approach and develop your Toptal pitch.

  • Start sourcing for our sales roles while building strong relationships with Hiring Managers to align on needs and expectations.

  • Begin guiding candidates through the recruitment process - from initial outreach to offer acceptance.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Have successfully hired your first candidate.

  • Fully own the recruitment lifecycle - from sourcing to offer acceptance, while exercising discretion and independent judgment.

  • Contribute direct feedback and insights to support continuous team and process improvement.

In the first six months, expect to:

  • Build strong, scalable candidate pipelines to support rapid hiring for high-impact sales roles.

  • Develop deep relationships with key stakeholders across the sales function, acting as a trusted business partner to support their growth and success.

  • Coach and support interviewers to strengthen evaluation practices and elevate the overall candidate experience.

In the first year, expect to:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in sales recruiting, confidently guiding decision-making and answering questions across all stages of the sales hiring lifecycle.

  • Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives that improve our sales recruiting function - whether optimizing processes, enhancing tools, or driving innovation to help us attract top-tier sales talent at scale.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

  • 5+ years of proven success in recruitment, with at least part of that experience in-house.

  • Minimum of 3 years of sales recruiting experience, with a focus on hiring high-performing, enterprise-level sales talent.

  • Experience recruiting from professional services environments, particularly candidates with a track record in enterprise-level, complex solution selling.

  • Experience hiring for roles that require P&L ownership and a strong understanding of business operations.

  • Experience partnering with Hiring Managers to strategically guide them through the end-to-end recruiting process for sales roles.

  • You bring a team-first mindset - you’re humble, curious, adaptable, and always willing to pitch in wherever needed to help the team succeed.

  • You’re a proactive talent hunter; you don’t wait for candidates to come to you.

  • You have a strong ability to recognize exceptional talent and assess whether candidates will thrive in both the role and the company as it scales.

  • You extend offers with confidence, knowing you’ve built trust and alignment throughout the process.

  • Detail-oriented and organized, your candidate pipelines are clean, your communications are timely, and no loop is ever left open.

  • A compelling storyteller - you know how to excite sales candidates and clearly communicate Toptal’s value proposition.

  • Open to feedback and focused on continuous improvement, both individually and as a team.

  • You prioritize by impact and operate with focus and attention in a fast-moving, rapidly-scaling tech environment where quality and speed are both essential.

  • Able to work independently and effectively in a remote, fast-paced setting.

  • A sharp eye for the traits that make someone an outstanding contributor on a global, remote sales team.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - you deliver a high-touch, high-quality experience for candidates and hiring managers alike.

  • You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at Toptal. You will not be here just to tell other people what to do.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
