Director Clinical Informatics - Health Informatics

<strong>Description<br><br></strong><strong>Summary:<br><br></strong>The Director Clinical Informatics reports to a designated System Director and is responsible for leading a team of designated Clinical Informatics Departmental Managers and associates responsible for analyzing, developing, coordinating and maintaining standardized clinical content supporting clinical ordering/documentation, clinical decision support, and quality/patient safety indicator reporting. Utilizing perspectives of quality, physician ordering patterns, nursing and ancillary practice, clinical workflow, clinical throughput and safety, the Director Clinical Informatics will work to leverage clinical technology, clinical information systems (CIS) and informatics to achieve the goals of improving quality, reducing cost and improving efficiency associated with the delivery of clinical care throughout CHRISTUS Health. Responsibilities will include training, mentoring and coaching Clinical Informatics associates on their daily activities as well as leading clinical information system projects and initiatives as assigned. The Director Clinical Informatics will research, develop, define and coordinate testing and implementation for new or enhanced content, functionality, and/or technology for evidence-based solutions to optimize the use of electronic medical records. This position is exempt.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Monitors, manages, and reports day-to-day operations to the System Director Clinical Informatics to support efficient and effective planning for resource utilization and prioritization of the body of work for which Health Informatics is accountable and responsible.</li><li>Provide leadership and oversight of the Health Informatics governance process and related committee/workgroup activities to ensure appropriate integration across care-giver disciplines and patient care transitions in the development and maintenance of evidence-based clinical content in new or existing health information system applications, including by not limited to: ordering, clinical documentation, and clinical decision support systems.</li><li>Provide oversight in the analysis and evaluation of current systems and procedures as well as the development of system design and workflow modifications for optimization of health information systems and processes.</li><li>Successfully manages a full workload across multiple-projects, while leading a team of assigned informatics associates.</li><li>Proactively engages with CHRISTUS business units, at all appropriate levels, to support the development and accomplishment of CHRISTUS strategies and clinical professional/quality goals and objectives.</li><li>Provides effective oral and written communication to all served by Health Informatics.</li><li>Supervise and motivate assigned direct reports.</li><li>Manage assigned associate’s time and attendance/payroll.</li><li>Promotes the development of health informatics associates using counseling, teaching, and role modeling techniques.</li><li>Provides associate advice with interpreting and/or executing departmental and organizational standards, policies, and procedures to facilitate the goals and objectives of the organization.</li><li>Provide project management through the provision of clinical and workflow knowledge, expertise, and assignment of the appropriate human resources for the task.</li><li>May be required to travel to perform duties.</li><li>May be required to work outside of normal working hours. May be required to work long hours during critical problems or implementations<br><br></li></ul><strong>Requirements<br><br></strong><strong>Education/Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor’s Degrees in Healthcare, Informatics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, business or related field required</li><li>Strongly prefer Bachelor’s in clinical health care field in addition to informatics degree/certification or significant professional experience</li><li>Master’s Degree preferred </li><li>Education and experience in relevant Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) support and delivery processes. ITIL Certification preferred. </li><li>Financial skills related to budgeting, forecasting and managing multi-million-dollar departmental budgets. </li><li>Strong knowledge of major clinical information system(s) </li><li>Strong knowledge of clinical care processes across all clinical disciplines in the continuum of care and demonstrated expertise in the application of clinical technology to these processes </li><li>Thorough understanding of hospital and ambulatory care operations </li><li>Knowledgeable of relevant national quality, patient safety and regulatory initiatives and ability to address these at a local level. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>3 or more years of experience with clinical information systems (CIS) design, implementation and optimization in a complex, multi-site environment. Experience supporting Epic strongly preferred. </li><li>In-depth, advanced clinical base of knowledge as normally obtained through an Advanced Clinical Degree and three or more years of related clinical and operational experience strongly preferred </li><li>Three (3) plus years of direct clinical care experience in relevant clinical discipline strongly preferred </li><li>Significant experience in CIS governance design, clinician adoption and alignment </li><li>Applied experience in evidence based medicine content design and implementation </li><li>Proven ability to develop, participate in, and implement a successful matrix team structure to support large EMR install minimizing costs, maintaining quality of product, and a focus on resource utilization management using lean methodologies and optimizing staff where relevant. </li><li>Experience in providing and managing customer support in a highly matrixed organization. </li><li>Experience within health care industry. </li><li>Ability to work in a collaborative way across a diverse, geographically and culturally, organization. </li><li>Experience in transformational and organizational change management and demonstrated understanding of change management theories and principles. </li><li>Experience in managing performance improvement activities, including analyzing clinical workflow processes </li><li>Experience in relevant ITIL support and delivery processes. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Valid State Driver’s License</li><li>Registrations, certifications and/or licensures commensurate with related clinical field (i.e. RN, RPh, CPhT, MT, etc.)<br><br></li></ul><strong>Work Schedule<br><br></strong>8AM - 5PM Monday-Friday<br><br><strong>Work Type<br><br></strong>Full Time
