Part-Time Online Contest Administrator (Weekend Focus / Full-Time Potential)

About mathleague.org mathleague.org is the largest network of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the US and abroad. We run more than 400 contests globally and reach over 30,000 students each year, and we produce more math contest problems each year than any other contest in the US. Our work is grounded in our four core values of excellence, integrity, trust, and community.

About the Role (The Immediate Need) We are seeking a highly organized, tech-savvy Online Contest Administrator to manage the execution of our live online mathematics competitions.

This is not a standard Monday–Friday job. The core requirement of this role revolves around intense weekend bursts. You will act as the "mission control" for our online events, ensuring students can log in, enforcing contest rules, troubleshooting technical glitches on the fly, and keeping the event running flawlessly.

The Schedule

  • Frequency: Approximately two weekends a month for half of the year (during peak contest season).
  • Intensity: These specific weekends require long hours and dedicated focus to cover the duration of the live contests.
  • Flexibility: Outside of these specific weekends, your time is your own. This is an ideal setup for a college student, a freelancer, or someone looking for supplemental income without weekday commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Event Operations: Open and manage online contest rooms, monitor student activity, and strictly enforce timing and rules.
  • Tech Support: Act as the first line of defense for students and proctors experiencing login issues, platform bugs, or connectivity drops.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, calm, and professional communication in fluent English with participants, parents, and our internal team during high-pressure live events.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the integrity of the testing environment and properly log all event data post-contest.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional spoken and written English.
  • Strong technological intuition (you quickly understand software platforms and can troubleshoot basic user errors).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of remaining calm under pressure.
  • (Note: Advanced math skills are not required for this baseline part-time role, just sharp logic and reliability).

The "Full-Time Upside" (Optional Expansion)

While our immediate operational need is part-time weekend support, we are a growing organization. We are actively willing to convert this position into a Full-Time Salaried Role ($50,000 – $55,000/year + Benefits) if a candidate also fits one of the two following profiles:

Profile A: The Curriculum & Instruction Lead (Remote)

  • If you possess an advanced background in competition mathematics (Olympiad, Putnam, etc.) and can curate elite-level contest problems and teach live online classes during the week, we can combine those duties with weekend contest administration to create a full-time role. (Additional income potential via private tutoring is also available for this track).

Profile B: The Houston Operations Lead (Must be local to Houston, TX)

  • If you are based in the Houston area and have a background in marketing, logistics, or education administration, we can combine outreach, physical event logistics, and inventory management with this online weekend role to create a full-time position.

How to Apply Please send your resume and a brief cover letter to operations@mathleague.org.

  • In your email: Please specify if you are applying solely for the Part-Time Weekend Role, or if you are interested in being considered for the Full-Time Expansion (Profile A or Profile B). Please confirm your availability to work intensive weekend hours.
  • We will not be evaluating applications sent through Indeed. You may only apply by emailing us directly from your email account. The subject of your email must be "Go Rockets!" to prove that you read the entire job listing. We will not respond to applications that do not satisfy the requirements for submission, as the ability to read, comprehend, and follow exact instructions is crucial to this job.

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
