Central Office Receptionist (Readvertised-updated job description)

ANNISTON CITY SCHOOLS CENTRAL OFFICE RECEPTIONIST Reports To: Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Contract Period: 12 month / 240 day contract Salary: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Job Summary: The Central Office Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for the school district’s administrative offices. This position provides a professional and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and the public, while also supporting administrative staff through clerical and operational tasks. The receptionist handles incoming calls, manages front desk operations, and ensures communication flows smoothly within the district office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Greet and assist all visitors to the central office in a friendly and professional manner. Represent the District in a positive and professional manner. Model and maintain high ethical standards. Demonstrate support for the school system and its mission, goals and priorities. Answer and route incoming phone calls; take and deliver accurate messages. Maintain the sign-in/sign-out process and ensure visitor and district safety protocols are followed. Respond to general inquiries and provide information regarding district policies, departments, and procedures. Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages; prepare outgoing mail. Provide clerical support including data entry, filing, photocopying, and document preparation for district administrators. Schedule appointments and manage conference room bookings, as needed. Maintain the appearance and organization of the front desk and lobby area. Assist with special projects or tasks as assigned by the superintendent’s office or administrative team. Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Be proactive in addressing any other needs or duties that may arise. Follow district guidelines for attendance, punctuality and dress code. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with district policies and legal requirements. Successfully participate in training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. Qualifications: Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience in office administration, customer service, or as a receptionist preferred. Experience in a school district or educational setting is a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Professional demeanor and ability to interact with individuals at all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and general office equipment. Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and maintain organization in a busy office. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a standard office environment. Frequent contact with staff, parents, community members, and external vendors. Occasional lifting of office supplies (up to 25 lbs). May require extended periods of sitting and computer use. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policy and procedures.
