Datacenter Engineer
Job Description:
- Support Blizzard’s data center infrastructure
- Create and maintain tools used by the team
- Serve as an escalation point for other support teams
- Act as a key resource on projects and work directly with Project Managers to implement data center technology solutions
- Manage problems and incidents
- Participate in team projects and initiatives
- Receive hardware, install servers, cable neatly, and ensure operational use
- Operate, monitor, and maintain power, cooling, and life safety systems critical to data centers
- Install and configure new IT hardware or decommission equipment
- Document and diagram data center floor plans, rack layouts, network ports, and power usage
- Perform data center inventory and asset management using DCIM
- Assist with design, documentation, configuration, integration, and installation of complex network infrastructure
- Perform OS deployments, LDAP and Puppet configurations, and create and maintain automation and monitoring scripts
- Assist with tool integration, including JIRA, Slack, and other web APIs
- Perform break-fix work on equipment
- Provide 24x7 on-call support as part of a weekly rotation
- Conduct research and development in automation and hardware
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in computer science or related field, or 4 years’ experience in Systems Engineering/DevOps related work
- Experience working with HPE, Dell, and Cisco server equipment
- Experience working with Unix/Linux systems
- Ability to work with global cross-functional teams
- Ability to act quickly, competently, and confidently
- Ability to use discretion with sensitive information or confidential issues
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking capabilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong emphasis on equipment and work safety
- Highly motivated and self-driven, capable of working with little instruction to resolve demanding tasks
- Passion for technology and gaming
- Must be able and willing to lift 50 pounds
- Familiarity with data center operations, including generators, PDUs, UPSs, CRAC units, and life safety systems
- Experience with public and private cloud, including OpenStack, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with network theory and protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, and VLANs
- Familiarity with service configuration and deployment tools such as Ansible, Git/GitHub, Jenkins, Puppet, or SaltStack
- Ability to read and write code fluently in Bash, C/C++, Java, or Python
