Experienced Critical Power Field Technician – UPS Field Engineer

Job Description:

  • Provide preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, STS units, inverters, and related critical power equipment
  • Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and industry best practices
  • Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure
  • Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status
  • Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services
  • Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications
  • Develop strong customer relationships through technical expertise, responsiveness, and exceptional service delivery
  • Mentor junior technicians and support field training efforts
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements
  • Support additional field service activities as business and customer needs evolve

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure
  • Experience with Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Experience using multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills and ability to explain technical findings, recommendations, and corrective actions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and professional accountability
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned service territory, including overnight and multi-day travel
  • Ability to meet company vehicle requirements
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including drug screening and background check where applicable
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas
  • Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and in mission-critical customer environments
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods while maintaining attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced field environments
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance Access to customer facilities
  • Military backgrounds in electronics, avionics, communications, radar, power generation, electrical maintenance, nuclear power, or related technical specialties are highly encouraged
