Powerline Crewleader

<strong>Description<br><br></strong>Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking an experienced Powerline Crewleader to lead and participate in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution systems. This position provides field leadership for line crews, oversees daily work activities, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards.<br><br>The ideal candidate is a skilled lineworker with strong leadership abilities, extensive knowledge of electric utility operations, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.<br><br>Key Responsibilities<br><br><ul><li>Lead and direct crew activities related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission facilities.</li><li>Investigate job sites and pre-plan work activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.</li><li>Install and maintain primary and secondary power lines, cables, and conduit systems.</li><li>Operate bucket trucks, line trucks, backhoes, and conductor/cable pulling and tensioning equipment.</li><li>Perform and oversee emergency restoration and outage response activities.</li><li>Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.</li><li>Train, mentor, and evaluate line personnel while promoting a strong safety culture.</li><li>Complete work orders, timesheets, and other required documentation.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Minimum Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Graduation from an accredited two (2) year community/technical college with a degree/certification in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years experience as an electric Powerline Technician first class, which includes lead worker responsibilities; OR</li><li>Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as defined in (A) above; OR</li><li>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as defined (A) and (B) above.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Knowledge & Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Strong knowledge of overhead and underground power line construction and maintenance practices.</li><li>Experience working on energized high-voltage distribution systems.</li><li>Ability to lead crews, delegate work, and coordinate field operations.</li><li>Knowledge of utility safety practices and regulations.</li><li>Ability to respond effectively during emergency outages and storm restoration efforts.</li><li>Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Additional Requirements<br><br></strong><ul><li>Functional Employment Test (FET) required.</li><li>Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.</li><li>Ability to free climb utility poles.</li><li>Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.<br><br></li></ul>Why Join PWC?<br><br><ul><li>Competitive pay and benefits</li><li>Leadership opportunity within a public power utility</li><li>Career growth and development opportunities</li><li>Hands-on work supporting critical electric infrastructure</li><li>Opportunity to make a direct impact on reliable electric service for the Fayetteville community<br><br></li></ul>If you're ready to lead crews and help maintain the electric system that powers our community, we encourage you to apply.<br><br>EMPLOYER’S RIGHTS: This job description is general and illustrative of the kind of duties required of this position.
