Charlotte County Tourism is seeking a part-time public relations assistant to support public relations, media relations, tourism partnerships, hosted media experiences, special events, and promotional initiatives for the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach Visitor & Convention Bureau.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with tourism industry partners, travel journalists, and social media influencers.
  • Assist with recruiting and coordinating hosted media and Familiarization tours, including itineraries, accommodations, transportation, dining, and attractions.
  • Draft and proofread press releases, media pitches, and editorial responses.
  • Research tourism trends and identify media and promotional opportunities.
  • Collaborate on social media and content development.
  • Monitor and track media coverage and share results with tourism partners.
  • Prepare media kits and promotional materials and assist with public relations events.
  • Support tourism programs and special events, including the Annual Tourism Celebration and Event Development Program.
  • Maintain records, process related expenditures, prepare reports, and provide general administrative support.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and professional communication to partners, media, vendors, and the public.

Your Purpose & Day-To-Day Journey

Education and Experience:

An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
    • Preferred:
      • Communications

      • Marketing

      • Public Relations

      • Media

  • Two (2) years of experience in public relations, digital marketing and social media.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to speak, read, and write in German and/or Spanish.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret departmental rules, regulations, procedures and policies and exercise judgement and discretion in application

  • Skills in the use of office equipment such as computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine and copier

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records and reports

  • Strong written and verbal communications

  • Detailed oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools

  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn and ability to work in a team environment

  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills

  • Event planning

  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English, both orally and in writing.
